Steps to Install Soundproof Glass at Your Home

Install Soundproof Glass at Your Home

Have you noticed how noisy our cities have gotten over the last decade? Earlier, people who lived on main city roads would often complain about the noise pollution, but now it has spread out to even the not-so-busy streets. External noise creates stress and fatigue. People may say and believe that they’ve gotten “used to” such noises that invade their nap time and private moments, but the truth is – noise pollution is not acceptable. Your home should be a place where you can unwind in peace and not have to tolerate the loud blaring of horns and partying neighbours. If you live in a cacophonous neighbourhood and are looking for some quiet, then fortifying your windows with soundproof glass is the ultimate solution to your noise-related woes.

The windows and doors of your home are the sources that let in noise in 90% of cases. A wall is solid and reduces ambient noise transfer, but a window or a door is essentially a hole in the wall that allows sound transmission. Therefore, a reduction in sound can simply be achieved by taking care of your doors and more importantly your windows as they are far more common, especially in modern homes

What Are Soundproof Glass Windows?

broken glass windows Soundproof windows are specially designed to reduce the ambient noise pouring into your home by up to 42 decibels. The magic lies in the soundproof glass – laminated glass, whose special PVB interlayer is responsible for reducing noise intrusion. Along with sound reduction by disabling noise from entering your home in the first place, these windows also absorb sound and stop the noise that does get inside your home by not letting it reverberate.

The Science Behind Sound Proof Glass Windows

To reduce noise, a barrier must be created between the sound and your ear. This barrier has to be strong enough to capture the sound waves. Everything in your home, from walls to doors to windows acts as a barrier that captures the sound. To increase a window’s ability to block noises, a manufacturer has to do three critical things – cut the glass thicker to add more mass, create and increase the space between two glass panes to add air space, use a glass-plastic-glass sandwich, also called laminated glass.

These three solutions are at the very foundation of soundproofed windows. While getting them professionally installed, you can even ask your expert to elaborate on these pointers to gain more knowledge about your purchase.

Benefits of Soundproof Glass

Apart from the obvious benefit of keeping noise pollution culled and providing for a more comfortable overall dwelling experience, soundproof glass has other advantages as well.

Dust-Resistant

This is an overlooked advantage of  soundproof glass. They keep your interiors cleaner by reducing the amount of dust, dirt, and moisture entering your home more than other types of windows. The design of these windows does not allow grime or dirt to stick or settle around them, which means that they are also much easier to clean. Since window cleaning often takes extra time and effort, installing  soundproof glass in windows can provide you with a maintenance-free pass.

Increased Thermal Comfort

Soundproof glass also insulates your home. Windows installed with soundproof glass keep interiors cooler during the summer by radiating the heat back towards the exteriors. Alternatively, they do not allow for warm air to escape from inside your house easily, thus, keeping your home’s temperature higher during the wintertime. This also makes them energy-efficient. You can save significantly on heating and cooling the interiors if you have soundproof glass installed.

UV-Protection and Optimal Glare Management

As discussed, soundproofed windows are well-insulated. This means that you can enjoy all the benefits of solar light without running the risk of exposure to solar glare or harmful UV rays. These windows allow divine natural light to pass through while absorbing harmful UV rays. This is not only beneficial for your skin but also for the lifespan of your interior furnishings. Overexposure to sunlight can fade your rugs, carpets, and upholstery. Soundproof glass can ensure that this does not happen.

Soundproof Glass Window Installation

Soundproof glass windows should only be installed by a professional service. Call a trusted vendor that has made a name for itself in the glass industry. Get in touch with the company’s representative and request a quote for your specific requirements before committing. Additionally, talk to them about their installation process, the training and experience of their technicians, and the total time they will take to fulfill your window requirements.

Another important thing that you should discuss is the STC or Sound Transmission Class rating of the glass used. The STC rating measures the amount of noise stopped at the 10 most common frequencies, measured in decibels. Glass panes with higher STC ratings are better. The quality of this conversation will speak volumes about how truly professional the company is. Ask them about the nature of the guarantee their products come with. Quizzing them about their products and services is critical before you make the leap.

Maintenance of Office Buildings

Do not judge a book by its cover, but you can sure judge a building by its façade. This is because a façade is not merely an ornamental building envelope. Notwithstanding the fact that modern facades render a sleek and sophisticated look to offices and other structures, these curtain walls are installed for fulfilling specific functional roles – roles that are extremely vital in light of energy depletion and rising energy costs, especially for offices.

Modern Glass Facades: Taking Luxury to New Heights

There is a good reason as to why most gigantic office and other commercial buildings incorporate glazed glass facades. After all, the delicate, fluid visual feel of glass has professionalism and sophistication written all over it. Superstructures constructed using glazed glass facades are bound to have passers-by gaping at them in awe and wonderment and allow the business owner to make a statement with the classy look of glass facades.

Moreover, there is quite nothing like gazing out at the world from the interiors of a building with glass facade systems. The transparency of glass allows one to have an other-worldly sort of an experience where the whole world lies in panoramic view of the spectator. As there are no construction burdens on the partition wall of glass, modern-day glass facades look like decorative skirts encircling the entire structure and offering picturesque views that are breath-taking. Such views of the outdoors coupled with the ample amount of natural light that enters play a key role in boosting the mood of those working within those office buildings.

Not Just Visually Enticing but High-Performing

The fact that modern glass façade systems are eye-pleasing and offer an excellent view of the glorious outdoors is undebatable. Yet, the importance of glass façade systems mainly makes sense due to their high-performance in energy-savings and their cost-effectiveness to offices and other commercial buildings where energy loss is a serious issue.

The effectiveness of glass facades in providing optimal energy-efficiency greatly depends on the glazing type. Installing solar-control glass or low-E glass in facades will prevent the intense heat of the sun from invading the interiors without compromising on natural light. Moreover, such facades can even prove to be beneficial during the colder months of the year by trapping in the heat and not allowing it to escape. As a result, the need for artificial lighting and artificial heating and cooling systems will reduce significantly, thereby resulting in reduced energy consumption and energy bills subsequently.

Energy-Efficiency + All-Glass Buildings

Let us see why and how the energy-efficiency provided by glass facades is being leveraged in the construction of modern-day offices.

Firstly, the building envelope is the physical barrier standing between the interior and the exterior environment. And to that end, it is responsible for much of the energy balance that occurs inside the building. As a result, the type of material used in the construction of the envelope or the façade is of utmost importance in determining the energy performance of a building, and therefore, its degree of sustainability. Moreover, let’s not forget the direct impact it will have on the building’s occupants, in this case, company’s workers. If the building is to stand in a region that experiences a Mediterranean or a tropical type of climate, where the need for interior cooling is more dominant for most part of the year, this condition becomes even more critical. But the problem can be solved by glass façades made using heat-reflective or low-E glass as they will reflect back most of the unwanted heat of the sun, allowing only tolerable levels to linger inside.

The next consideration while designing energy-efficient office buildings that use glass facades is adequate room for natural light to enter. Since the energy demand of any space is directly affected by the internal loads created by both artificial lighting and the use of air-conditioning and room heating and cooling devices, optimal energy-efficiency would involve taking both sufficient natural lighting and reduced need for air-conditioners and room heaters into account. Well, even in terms of supplying natural light, glass façade stands as a clear winner. Facades made of heat-reflective or low-E glass only disallow the unwanted longer infrared radiation of the sun from entering. They allow copious amounts of natural light to enter impeded.

Moreover, even smart glass or switchable glass is increasingly becoming a popular choice for office facades. After all, the simple recipe for achieving energy-efficiency in high-rise office and other commercial buildings is to focus on accomplishing optimal light and temperature management – both of which smart glass can smartly take care of minus the need for external shading or blinds.

AIS Décor Glass for Innovative Interior Designs

Though the profession of interior designing is only a 100 years old, history bears testimony to its existence even during the time of the ancient Egyptians who furnished their native mud homes with simple textiles, animal skins, painted urns, and graphic murals. Back in the days, architects doubled up as interior designers to complete their vision. The dawn of interior designing was to rigidly coordinate it with the architecture of buildings. Then, with the 17th CE, the task of interior designing was relegated to the homemaker soon to be taken over by a skilled upholsterer or craftsman in the early 19th CE. And interior designing as we know it today is a separate profession altogether where specialists help people to maximise the efficiency of their space with elements, textures, and colours that enhance their visual appeal.

Interior Designing: Décor that Enhances Life

Gone are those days when interior designing was considered to be a pompous expression for good tastes in decoration – choosing the right colours, patterns, and fabrics. Modern-day interior designing is all that and much more where form and function are taken as a whole – the one dependent on the other – to create meaningful and highly optimised personal and commercial spaces.

In case of personal spaces, the aim is to create interiors that tell the story of the residents without sacrificing on basic and individual functional requirements. Smart interior designing can mean the difference between a house and a home, an environment that is cold and lifeless and one that is comfortable and full of warmth and familiarity.

Breathe New Life into Your Interiors with Lacquered Glass

To create interiors that are a reflection of you and your loved ones without compromising on being progressive and timeless, choose lacquered glass as your one-stop-source. Lacquered glass is a type of modern-day glass innovation in which one of the glass surfaces is painted with high-quality lacquer followed by a process of oven-curing to lock in its unique features. The resulting glass is not only smooth, glossy, and coloured in appearance, but also opaque.

Lacquered glass is not only a treat to the eyes but is also highly functional – It is low-maintenance, UV, heat, and humidity-resistant, durable and long-lasting, and can be processed in a wide number of ways.

There’s a lacquered glass for every homeowner out there. To find out the one that suits your tastes, here are a few innovative ways to include lacquered glass in your interiors –

For the Heart of Your Home

When it comes to designing the most important space of your home – the kitchen where all the magic takes place, Back Painted glass is your one-stop-source both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. The fluid and glossy visual feel of glass when coupled with the vibrant colours of lacquer can be installed in kitchen crockery units, counter-tops, backsplash, and wall panelling to create the kitchen of your dreams. Whether you’re a minimalist, a traditionalist, a classicist, or a modernist; Back Painted glass aesthetic solutions can be customised to your needs. Opt for warm, pastels and nude tones for a light, airy, and uncluttered look or alternate with a pop of bold shades of orange, yellow, and red to radiate an eclectic vibe. You can even choose a single colour palette for your kitchen cabinets while choosing royal metallic shades for your kitchen island and backsplash to create an ambience of grandeur and royalty. You can even have magnetic Back Painted glass marker boards installed in your kitchen to jot down mom’s delectable traditional recipes.

Furthermore, since lacquered glass is scratch, humidity, and heat-resistant, and easy to clean, you have nothing to fear when it comes to installing it in a space that frequently experiences heat and moisture. Plus, allow the kids to make a mess while they help you in your baking projects!

For Your ‘Safe Space’

If there is any room in the house where the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign works without having to put it on the door, it’s the bathroom. It is a safe haven for many, where the stresses of the day can be washed off and a moment of solitude and contemplation can be experienced. In this sense, a bathroom becomes more than just another room. Your sacred space requires an ambience that sets the tone for peace. Accenting the bathroom design with scented candles, artwork, and pairing towels and toiletries goes a long way in achieving that aura but it is equally important to choose a colour theme that is relaxing. And what could be better than the vibrant world of lacquered glass! You can opt for darker shades of greens and earthy browns or pastels and nudes – both works equally well in creating a calming ambience. You can even get it installed in panels of different sizes and shapes (monotones or motley of colours) for a more fun look. And since lacquered glass is moisture-resistant, you need not worry about installing it in a space where humidity is the norm. Moreover, the smooth, glossy look of glass will bestow the right touch of modernism!

For the Space that Strengthens Bonds

With lacquered glass, the sky is the limit. For taking the oomph factor of your living rooms a notch up, lacquered glass is the ideal option. After all, it’s the space where guests are entertained and friends and family gather together to spend most of their at-home time and hence, is a highly important space in terms of decoration. You can have lacquered wall panels in dark and sleek shades in your living room and even have the television installed in it as lacquered glass can be drilled in. Just make sure to choose colours that are not too bold and do not divert your attention away from the television. Even table-tops can be installed with stunning shades of lacquered glass for a modernistic and chic visual appeal. Plus, since lacquered glass is durable and low-maintenance, there is no need to fear spill-overs during family movie nights. Lacquered glass wall panels can even be used to create a clear demarcation of the living space from the dining space in style. Among other intriguing installations, magnetic lacquered glass marker boards can also be installed to write down important reminders and allow kids to explore their inner-Picasso.

For Your Cosy Haven

According to Feng Shui, the room that is the most important in your home is the one in which you remain unconscious for a good part of the time – your bedroom. Well, for one sleep is vital and hence the space where you sleep must have an ambience that promotes healthy and deep sleep. Moreover, for most people, their bedrooms are the one space they get to call their own and where they can relax after their minds and bodies have been overworked from the chaos of everyday living. Well, adding extra cosy touches to your bedroom is all about accepting the Danish concept of hygge marked by candle lights, soothing textures, four-poster ultra-cosy beds, quilted throw pillows, and ofcourse a calm and neutral colour scheme. To keep the look warm, cosy, and progressive, lacquered glass panels can help you out. Choose calm pastel tones in combination with either of the extremes – whites and beige or black – and witness how your personal hygge culture unfolds right in front of your eyes. Moreover, you can even have lacquered glass floor-to-ceiling cupboards installed in your bedroom – The super glossy finish ad natural reflective property of glass will create a stunning effect that blends trend with elegance.

Points to Keep in Mind Before Looking for a Window Glass Installation Company

Contemporary homes feature exciting décor both interior and exterior. One of the most prominent features defining the exterior of your dream house is windows. They instantly add life to your home and make your stylistic choice more pronounced. Today, there is a range of different window types available in the market. Different glass makers regularly come out with innovative and pragmatic solutions for window glass, widening your pool of choices.

Since windows are an integral part of your home for both aesthetic and practical reasons, you cannot be careless while choosing a window glass installation provider. Here are some qualities that you should seek in your window glass installation company –

Licensing and Reputation

Even before seeing the kind of products and services your window glass provider offers, you must be aware of their legal and reputational details.

Typically, there exist various forms of company licensing for glassmaking corporations. While the government better defines these requirements, almost all companies are required to make their licensing details public. While choosing a window glass provider, verify their licensing information and see if their presence in the market is valid.

Another element you must inspect before choosing a company is its reputation with its regular consumers. To find out how well the company is performing, you can check reviews both online and consult friends and family to find out their quality of work. Remember to check the website of your window glass provider for testimonials and previous projects they may have undertaken.

Product Quality

The second most apparent thing to seek in your new window glass provider is delivery of quality. High-quality window glass is necessary for a sustainable and aesthetically-pleasing home. There is no point in getting new windows installed if you have to replace them every few years owing to their low quality.

The best window glass providers in the market will deliver high-quality products that are long-lasting. They will also not hesitate to provide you with details about the quality standards they follow while manufacturing their glass solutions.

Product Types

With the evolution of glassmaking technology, many different types of window glass have been designed to suit the needs of modern homeowners. No longer do you have to satisfy yourself with brittle window glass that does not fit in with your stylistic choices. Glass usually comes in a wide range of shades and supports varied applications.

Some common types of glass preferred in homes and offices today include

Toughened Glass: Traditionally, having glass windows and doors meant compromising on the safety features of your building. Nowadays, however, toughened glass is preferred over regular glass. Such glass is more difficult to break than regular glass. Moreover, it has fireproof and impact-proof features.

Acoustic Glass: Living in a metropolitan area can be troublesome because of the persistent noise that invades your personal space on a consistent basis. People usually go to great lengths to soundproof their buildings, whether residential or commercial. With acoustic glass windows, however, your place of work or residence becomes a quiet sanctuary. No additional soundproofing is required if you use high-quality acoustic window glass in your home.

Energy-Efficient Glass: People nowadays are sensitive to the environmental conditions around them. They want to have a home or office that is not harsh on the environment yet does not compromise on the aesthetics. With energy-efficient glass windows, building an eco-conscious building is extremely simple. Such glass usually provides heat insulation and reduces energy consumption in homes and offices.

When you start looking for a window glass installation company, ensure that they manufacture all the different kinds of glasses that you might need for your home or office.

360-Degree Support

While your window glass provider might offer full installation, remember that shopping for window glass is complicated, mainly when your home features unique stylistic choices. It is always better to choose a window glass company that not only offers installation but also supports you during the shopping process and advises you with aftercare for your windows. Not only will you not waste your money on unnecessary glass products, but also know what exactly you should do to keep your windows looking as good as new post-installation.

Install lacquered glass in like manner in kitchen cabinets, backsplash, counter-tops, and wall panelling. Moreover, since lacquered glass is low-maintenance, you can allow your kids’ hands to roam free to mess while they help you bake!

For Emanating that Minimalistic Vibe

Well, though mess is good, especially when it results in delicious meals after; your kitchen can benefit a lot from a simplistic design. After all, less is more right? And though designing an uncluttered kitchen space has a lot to do with getting rid of the extras, switching out your faucets, and ensuring that every item has a spot and every spot has the item meant for it; it also means rethinking your colour scheme. Well, the silky, glossy finish of lacquered glass will help you create a kitchen that is minimalistic but not frumpy. And for such a decorating theme, it is critical to choose a solid colour palette, preferably in neutral tones (with a lot of whites and greys involved ofcourse!). But, you need not confine yourself to the stereotypes. Feel free to add in a surprising pop of colour here and there if you wish but don’t overdo it. For instance – you can have white or neutral lacquered glass panels installed in kitchen cabinets while going a little loud with the backsplash or the counter-top (yellow, orange, blue, or red).

What is Float Glass- All You Need To Know

From shining skyscrapers to contemporary co-ops, from luxurious villas to swanky offices, glass has become a staple element in architecture and design projects. After all, not only does glass render a sleek and sophisticated charm to a space, but it is also designed to be highly functional. Fulfilling modern consumers’ modern and varied requirements, glass solutions are the top-pick in the current day and age. From matters of safety and durability to those of acoustic insulation or energy-efficiency, glass has something to offer. And all this while exuding a beauty that is ethereal, if there indeed is a word to describe the beauty of glass. And the precursor to all modern-day glass solutions is float glass.

What Is Float Glass?

Float glass is essentially a super smooth, distortion-free glass that is used for designing other glass items such as laminated glass, heat-toughened glass, and so on. With a natural greenish hue and translucent nature, it is capable of transmitting about 87% of the incident light, and unlike sheet glass, float glass provides users with a crystal-clear view. Float glass owes its unique name to the process by which it is manufactured, wherein the molten glass is introduced into a bath of molten tin, causing the glass to float freely.

History of Float Glass

Float glass is the original piece of glass, the progenitor of an endless generation of glass solutions. And so, before we learn about how it is made, it is vital to know the real history behind it. With its invention dating back to at least 3600 years, glass has been a timeless material that has served many generations. But it wasn’t until the late 19th century that float glass came into existence. In earlier centuries, glass was made through the blowing and disc method. Since glass was simply used for creating windows in the old days, glass for window or other flat glass was produced from large discs of crown glass or by blowing glass bottles. The discs were usually cut into pieces, flattened together, and cut out to create the windowpanes from the large surface.

But somewhere between 1953 and 1957, Sir Alastair Pilkington revealed the idea of manufacturing float glass to the world. Although Henry Bessemer – a UK engineer, patented the earliest advances in automated glass manufacturing, it was Sir Pilkington who perfected the production of float glass. While the original process of producing float glass by Bessemer used a continuous ribbon of flat glass by forming the ribbon between rollers, the Pilkington method developed the ribbon of float glass using a molten tin in which molten glass would flow unhindered under the influence of gravity. Bessemer’s version was an expensive process, but with the efficiency of the Pilkington method, Sir Alastair was able to achieve profitable full-scale sales of float glass by 1960.

Process of Manufacturing Float Glass

As the most widely used form of glass in today’s world, it is essential to know about the manufacturing process of float glass. It all starts with a mixture of raw materials like sand, limestone, dolomite, soda, and salt cake. Next, these materials are melted in a furnace until they fuse together to form molten glass. To manufacture float glass, molten glass from a furnace is poured into a chamber containing a bed of molten tin. The tin tub is approximately 4 to 8 metres wide and up to 60 metres long. During the manufacturing process, the atmosphere inside the chamber is carefully controlled to ensure that float glass is manufactured correctly. The reason for using tin is that it is the only metal that remains stable in its liquid state at a high temperature of 600 degrees Celsius. The glass floating on the tin eventually takes the shape of the container and spreads from 90 to 140 inches wide with a varying thickness, which is determined during the time of manufacture.

Once the glass takes its proper shape, it is polished with fire. It is important to remember that only the upper surface, which is also known as the airside or score side, is fire-polished and the lower surface i.e., the tin side, is set to cool. For the cooling process, the glass is moved from the chamber to a temperature-controlled oven called a lehr. In this kiln, the glass is cooled slowly at a specific rate, which is known as annealing. Through the process of annealing, the glass is relieved of all internal stresses to create a sturdy, uniform, and smooth sheet of float glass. Establishing the right rate of cooling is a crucial step in the manufacturing process, as the wrong temperature can result in the formation of air bubbles and internal stresses. Once the glass is removed from the lehr, it emerges as a continuous ribbon at room temperature, which is flat, has a fire-finished topcoat, and possesses smooth, parallel surfaces. The glass is then finished to perfection with automatic cutters that trim edges and cut the glass to the desired length. It can have a thickness range of anywhere between 0.4 mm to 25 mm, depending on the requirements.

Benefits of Installing Float Glass

Now that we’ve seen the extraordinary process of manufacturing float glass, let’s take a look at some of the many benefits that float glass has to offer.

Durability

As we saw earlier, float glass is treated and cured in an oven to gain strength and durability. Despite it being more substantial than plate glass, it has the same amount of thickness, thereby revealing its incredible density and making it the superior glass for designing your space’s interior and exteriors.

Environment-Friendly

Energy-efficiency refers to the ability of glass to regulate indoor temperature by keeping interiors relatively cool during summers and warm during winters. You can also design a low-E glass from float glass by coating it with metal oxides. At AIS Glass, we possess high-performance, energy-efficient glass to reduce energy bills for your home and offices and conserve the environment. Our AIS Clear Float

Glass is also 100% recyclable and non-toxic to ensure that you do not leave behind a carbon footprint. It is also designed to be copper and lead-free for environmental preservation.

Multitude of Options

As the originator of all glass products, float glass can be diversified to create a wide variety of glass products. It can be designed with varying thicknesses, shades, and sizes to suit a myriad of architectural and consumer requirements. Are Laminated Glass the Best for Security Purposes?

Having the delicate visual feel of water, glass is identified as a modern piece of décor that exudes class and sophistication. It keeps spaces visually open, adds grace to the architecture and can make any space feel like a work of art. It’s not a surprise that swanky glass structures are sure to leave people in awe and wonder. However, as elegant as glass buildings may be, they are often seen as a safety hazard, owing to “apparent” fragility.

But thanks to technological advancements, glass has evolved from its humble origins to encompass a world of possibilities, including the security factor. Although made of the same basic elements, which are sand, limestone, and sodium carbonate, modern-day glass is treated and processed to help you acquire a wide variety of glass solutions that cater to your every need. Whether you wish to increase the aesthetic appeal of your space or want to amp up the security factor, glass can do it all. In today’s day and age, you can find textured, coloured, patterned, and, most importantly, sturdy and durable glass designed to be more robust than steel. And one such glass that has taken the world by storm with its immense strength is laminated.

Growing Popularity of Laminated Glass

Specially designed to enhance the security measures of your space, laminated glass has become widely popular amongst architects and designers aiming to build a safe space. Manufactured with two or more sheets of annealed or heat-treated glass, laminated glass gets its superior strength and durability from a plastic interlayer called polyvinyl butyral (PVB) sandwiched between the glass sheets. The strength of laminated glass depends upon the number of PVB interlayers that were used in the manufacturing process. The higher the number of glass sheets and PVB interlayers, the better the efficiency of laminated glass at keeping your homes and offices away from harm.

After placing the PVB interlayer between the panes of glass, they are sealed together using an autoclave and a series of pressure rollers. The heat and pressure create several chemical and mechanical reactions causing the laminated glass to stay intact even under heavy impact. The PVB’s adhesive nature creates a mechanical and hydrogen bond by which the sheets of glass stick to each other in an integrated manner. A great benefit of the bonding process is that even in the event of glass breakage, laminated glass remains intact as the broken pieces stick firmly to the interlayer. This feature protects people from an injury that is usually the case with standard glass. This way, not only does the laminated glass protect you from burglars and intruders, but it also guarantees indoor safety for the people.

Laminated glass has emerged as a sensational hit in the market for designing functional spaces. However, laminated glass has also gained recent popularity for its trendy designs fused with optimum security that renders the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. Modernising Residential and Commercial Spaces with Switchable Glass

Almost a decade back in time, none could have imagined of accessing all the switch points in a room remotely from their “smartphone”. Or, who could have thought that giving commands to home appliances using a smart assistant would not be limited to sci-fi movies? Yet here we are – welcome to the 21st century that is getting techno-savvy still. This third wave of modernism has seeped into the world of architecture and interiors as well.  All the fancy homes that could only seem realistic as a part of the utopian world are now turning into a reality. After all, with phones and watches turning smart, why should our homes be left behind? One such smart feature that has advanced the world of interiors by leaps and bounds is switchable glass.

What is Switchable Glass? How Does Switchable Glass Work?

Also known as smart glass or electrochromic glass, switchable glass is a type of processed glass whose opacity levels can be adjusted by means of passing an electric field across them. Based on the PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystals) technology, a smart film comprising suspended liquid crystals is placed between special polymer films. Under normal conditions, the liquid crystals are randomly distributed and block the light by scattering it but when supplied with electric current, the crystals align themselves in a straight-line allowing light to pass through normally without scattering, thereby turning the glass from transparent to opaque at the touch of a button.

At AIS Glass, we possess the remarkable AIS Swytchglas which offers instant privacy and activates within less than 10 microseconds. Made from extra clear glass, it can be accessed remotely as well as manually for ease of use, blocks up to 50% light in ‘Off’ mode, lasts for a minimum of 20,000 cycles and also works in temperature from 0 to 55 degree-Celsius.

Common Uses of Switchable Glass

Switchable glass has become a sensational hit amongst architects and designers aiming to add a simple yet elegant oomph factor to their residential as well as commercial projects. Read on to find out some of the many uses of switchable glass

Homes

For all those people who love the idea of installing beautiful French windows but hate the idea of having to pull the curtains up every time there’s excess sunlight, switchable glass literally fixes this problem in an instance. Apart from being convenient, it also increases home hygiene by eliminating the need for mouldy blinds and curtains. Furthermore, its noise-cancelling properties ensure peace and quiet for a favourable living environment. For all the people who can’t get enough of nature and constantly dream of having a skylight, switchable glass is the solution. Not only does it give you the freedom of choice regarding the letting in or blocking of sunlight into your home but also gives you the added opportunity of fulfilling your lifelong dreams of gazing at starry skies with your partner snuggled beside you from the comfort of your own bedroom.

Hospitals

As we saw earlier, switchable glass is a great alternative for maintaining a clean space and what better place than a hospital to install it to offer patients the hygiene and privacy they need to rest and recover. It can be used in patient rooms, laboratories, operation theatres as well as common examination rooms to monitor and meet patients from outside without the risk of catching infections. Hospitals are known to be jam-packed with endless functional rooms such as labs, doctor’s chambers and waiting areas and installing switchable glass for partitions can serve as a huge space-saver in hospitals and accommodate more patients in private rooms. Moreover, switchable glass panels can also improve the aesthetic appeal of the hospital’s interiors to give it the warmth it needs. After all, the look of a space has a lot to do with a person’s well-being and which other place needs it the most other than a hospital!

Hospitality Sector

Cosy beds, plush interiors, luxurious bathrooms and extraordinary views from the balcony sum up the essentials of every relaxing vacation. Aiming to give visitors a transcendental experience, designers put a lot of thought into designing their hospitality projects. Be it a luxurious hotel suite or a beachside villa, there is nothing more satisfying than waking up to the gorgeous view of the great outdoors with your spouse by your side. However, plain glass doors and windows may not be able to provide you with the privacy you need. That’s why more and more designers are swapping out conventional door and window designs with switchable glass to provide visitors with the best of both worlds. With AIS Swytchglas, visitors enjoy privacy on-demand by turning it off and switching it back on for visibility.

Are Soundproof Glass Really Effective?

Ever been awoken by squealing kids playing in the street when all you wanted to do is rest and sleep on your day off? Find yourself constantly getting distracted at work due to a construction project happening near your office? If so, you’re not alone. The rapid urbanisation and overpopulation have tremendously increased noise pollution levels all over the world. Before we deal with the woes of incessant street noise, it is essential to realise that your homes serve as a getaway from all your worries from the outside world. It is the one place where you can melt your troubles away as you relax and unwind with your loved ones. Similarly, an office is supposed to be the place where you can have a steady flow of creative thoughts, unique ideas, and fun and interactive brainstorming sessions with your colleagues.

But thanks to noise infiltrating every aspect of our lives, it has become increasingly difficult to live in the moment and not get distracted every minute. And if any of you have experienced these thoughts, you may have considered implementing several solutions to create a noise-free environment right from earplugs to installing heavy doors.  But in reality, the best and truly effective solution is to install doors and windows with soundproof glass.

The Need for Soundproof Glass

Even though soundproof glass is a common buzzword when looking at acoustic solutions for homes and offices, several people lack awareness about the integral role they play in protecting our health. If you ever suffered from fatigue, stress, or disturbed sleep due to excessive outside noise, you should know that these are just the tip of the iceberg. The increasing levels of noise pollution have been causing adverse effects on people’s minds as well as physical health. Research has shown a direct link between chronic noise pollution and increased high blood pressure, depression, anxiety, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.

Several people being subjected to extreme levels of noise pollution may condition their brain to tune it out as white noise. For instance, people being subjected to daily noise of heavy machinery near construction and renovation projects may stop acknowledging the noise altogether. However, people working or living near these areas may slowly start developing other psychological issues such as stress, loss of memory, irritability, and short temper. Owing to the increasing population and rapid urbanisation, escaping outdoor noise is not an option anymore. But you can control your indoor environment to protect yourself from spoiling your health. Implementing proper measures to block sound from your home is not only beneficial for you but also ensures the wellbeing of your loved ones. Besides, taking the necessary steps to reduce noise disturbance and making the home or office a noise-free environment helps to reduce distractions and increases productivity.

As you can see, noise pollution may not have very distinct symptoms to tell you when it is the right time to install doors and windows with soundproof glass, but taking precautionary measures is the best way to reduce the adverse effects of noise pollution. Despite realising the importance of soundproof glass, however, several people may find themselves questioning their efficiency. And people who have not seen soundproof glass work their magic may often be swayed by other people’s opinions such as soundproof glass is inefficient at worst and a placebo effect at best. That’s why we’re here to debunk the myths about soundproof glass.

How Does Soundproof Glass Work?

Soundproof glass generally has a special layer of PVB interlayer sandwiched in between two standard glass panes. The specialised PVB interlayer possesses excellent sound-absorption properties and efficiently blocks out up to 60% of the external noise by preventing noise frequencies from vibrating from one glass pane to the other. Essentially, soundproof glass manufactured in such a manner functions in the following two ways –

  • It reflects the noise back towards its source (Meaning, the external noise is reflected back to the outdoors)
  • It absorbs the noise within the glass (This is done by the dampening core or the PVB interlayer)

At AIS Glass, we have designed the superior AIS Acousticglas TM to help you enjoy peace and tranquillity. It features a functional PVB interlayer to dampen external sound and reduce noise up to 42 decibels. Combined with fusion-welded and double-sealed mechanisms for sound insulation, this durable glass also exudes class and elegance to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your spaces while simultaneously creating a noise-free environment.

Soundproof glass is definitely a hit, and more people need to realise its importance in their lives. And now that you do head over to AIS Glass to pick out your soundproof glass or get it customised to match all your acoustic and interior needs. Get in touch with us today!

Pollution Effect Inside Our Homes

“There’s so much pollution in the air now that if it weren’t for our lungs, there’d be no place to put it all.” This sad statement pretty much sums up the scenario of the present day. Ever since the rise of the First Industrial Revolution, the problem of environmental pollution has existed and with each passing year has only gotten worse, to the extent that unless serious measures are taken both on the individual and the global level, the earth we get to call our home may not have any pollution-free areas left at all.

Air Pollution: An On-going Problem

According to the United Nations, it is predicted that by the year 2050, around 68% of the world’s population will be living in urban regions. As of today, the numbers stand at 55% – people are continually shifting, creating more congested areas than ever before. Add to it another 2.5 billion and you can only imagine the mayhem that is in the reserve.

Well, urban areas are infamous for alarming rates of pollution. The World Health Organisation reveals that nine out of ten people breathe in dangerous levels of polluted air on a constant basis. And to prove the authenticity of this claim, an estimated seven million people are killed every year due to the deadly beast of air pollution. The two major sources of air pollution in the urban areas have been found to be transportation technologies such as automobiles and power production technologies such as coal-burning plants.

Most of us are thoroughly aware of the physiological damage air pollution can have – heart disease, lung cancer, emphysema, birth defects to name only a few. But a study conducted by Professor Sefi Roth back in the year 2011 and then again in 2018, had some more surprising insights in store. In that study, students of similar education levels answering examinations were tested through the course of several days. Even the pollution levels on each day of the exam were measured. Shockingly, the results revealed that the most polluted days had the worst test scores whereas the scores dramatically increased on days when the air quality was the cleanest.

Moreover, in 2018, his team analysed the crime data from more than 600 of London’s electoral wards and found that with the rising levels of air pollution, crime rates also increased significantly. And what’s even more shocking is that even moderate levels of air pollution were capable of making a huge difference.

Jack Frost Only Aggravates the Problem

That being said, contrary to what people generally believe, the pollution onslaught worsens during the winter season. “Winter is coming and so is the pollution”, “Delhi struggles to breathe due to pollution onslaught”, “Winter has become synonymous with air pollution” are not merely newspaper headlines screaming for attention. The problem of smog becomes almost intolerable in winters owing to the dreaded ‘temperature inversion’ – a phenomenon where a layer of warm air is found at some height above the ground with colder, denser air both above and below this warm layer. As a result, the volume of air left open for pollutants to mix in becomes considerably smaller, thereby increasing pollutant concentration in that area significantly – high risk to even very high risk at times. How this happens is that the warm air parcels that rise above the ground will inevitably stop once they reach the inversion point and since an inversion can be formed a km above the ground or even lower, the concentration of deadly pollutants will have a smaller volume of air to mix with.

The cities in India where pollution has reached unbearable levels are – Delhi, Kanpur, Faridabad, Varanasi, Patna, Gaya, Lucknow, Muzaffarpur, Agra, even Srinagar with some cities scoring a whopping 174 on the PM 2.5 scale (which is 17 times higher than the acceptable limit declared by WHO). PM 2.5 refers to Particulate Matter 2.5 – atmospheric pollutants that have a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres (about 3% of the diameter of a human hair).

Since these particles are too small to be detected by the human eye and too fine, they can easily remain longer in the air than heavier particles and are capable of bypassing the nose and throat and penetrating deep into the lungs, sometimes even entering the circulatory system.

The acceptable PM 2.5 rating is 12 and below with 12.1 to 35.4 being moderately risky, 35.5 to 55.4 being unhealthy to sensitive people, 55.5 to 150.4 being unhealthy to healthy individuals, 150.4 to 250.4 being extremely unhealthy and a rating of 250.5 and above being downright hazardous.

The rising air pollution of India is gradually progressing towards hazardous. This air pollution naturally affects our indoors and pollutes the interiors of our private spaces.

Glass Solutions: The Answer to the Pollution Problem

Though it is true that the problem of outdoor air pollution is not entirely within our control, each of us can take certain necessary measures to ensure that the interiors of our personal spaces are well-protected against the deadly pollutants.

And to that end, modern-day innovations in glass solutions are here to help you. Anti-pollution window solutions come with double-glazed glass units that allow natural light to pass through but keep the unwanted heat of the sun and unneeded noise at bay. Moreover, these windows are completely sealed with multi-point locking systems to ensure that even PM 2.5 contaminants do not invade your space. Finally, to fill in any gaps that might be left between the glass panes and the window frames, a special silicone sealant is used. The resulting fenestration solution is equipped to help you and your family fight the rising levels of air pollution.

Want to make your home pollution-proof? Then, contact AIS Glass without delay! As India’s leading glass manufacturer, our fenestration solutions are thoroughly designed to keep pollution at an arm’s length. The multi-point locking systems and specialised high-quality silicone sealant that we use on our windows will keep you safe from the most deadly of air contaminants and our double-glazed glass will maintain ideal interior temperatures. As a staple element in modern architecture, glass is widely used by revered architects and designers to add life to their projects – be it residential or commercial. After all, its natural clear colour renders refinement and simplicity to a structure. Moreover, modern glass is processed to provide several other useful functionalities – acoustic insulation, energy-efficiency, extreme durability, to name just a few. And when functionality meets aesthetics, one cannot help but be awestruck.

Today’s glass designs have gone even a step further and are not limited to the classic standard colour and transparency of glass. Their opacity levels can be enhanced via a process of colour coating that can take the aesthetics of your space to the next level. Welcome this picturesque member of the glass family – lacquered glass.

What is Lacquered Glass?

Lacquered glass is a type of decorative glass that possesses a layer of colour coating on one of its surfaces. Hence, it is also known as back-painted glass.  Made from a highly durable and opaque lacquer, this lacquered glass coating is baked and cured in the oven. This helps the lacquer bond correctly with the glass and ensures a smooth finish. Since the glass is back painted, lacquered glass possesses an opaque coloured appearance to enhance the aesthetic brilliance of your homes and offices. And although typically used for achieving stylish interiors, lacquered glass can now be processed to acquire durable properties as well.

Lacquered glass is highly sustainable and helps to maintain clean environmental surroundings. The manufacturing of back painted glass complies with the strictest regulations regarding the control of formaldehyde emissions and other volatile organic compounds commonly known as VOCs; for the conservation of the environment. And just like every other glass, lacquered glass is 100% recyclable and non-toxic.

At AIS Glass, we possess the ultimate AIS Décor Glass – a high-quality back painted glass that is oven-cured through a superior process to achieve its lustrous finish and opaque colour appearance. How Glass Handles Pressure of Aquatic Life Inside

Few sights in all of creation are capable of drawing out reverence and wonder like the mighty ocean and its raging waves. The view is not just spectacular but also calming and healing. So watching marine life in all its glory. People frequently go scuba diving to have a one-on-one with God’s exquisite creation, not just because it appeals to their eyes but also because it has the power to eliminate stress and induce a relaxed state of mind. And having a piece of that marine beauty right inside your home can have the same effect.

The Ethereal Beauty of Underwater Life

The awe-inspiring magnificence and grandeur of an ocean have left many of us gaping at it in wonder, sometimes for even hours on a stretch. Yet, it is just the tip of the iceberg. Beneath the vast water bodies lie myriads of unique and beautiful creatures hidden from the naked eye. Well, though fishes are common, there is an unspeakable number of species that are highly uncommon, maybe some even waiting to be discovered. Moreover, it is nothing short of an otherworldly experience to have a one-on-one with one-of-a-kind marine creatures such as seahorses, octopuses, sharks and whales, starfish, feather stars, glaucus atlanticus, phytoplankton, jellyfish, coral reefs – the list is practically endless!

As aesthetically pleasing and breath-taking marine life is highly vital for the existence of all other species. After all, the oceans are the largest ecosystem on the earth, having 97% of the world’s water, generating half of the world’s oxygen, and providing at least a sixth of the animal protein consumed by people.

Though confining the glorious beauty of the Almighty’s creation to a box is unattainable, a piece of that majesty can be captured in the form of aquariums. From gargantuan oceanariums to portable in-house setups, today it is possible to get a glimpse of the underwater glory. Aquariums not only add an aesthetic touch to the spaces they are installed in but have been found to have calming effects on the human brain, especially those of children. Moreover, they are also useful for educational purposes – teaching kids about the value of marine life and instilling them with a sense of responsibility through caring for the marine creatures.

Glass: Still a Favourite Choice in Aquarium Building

Most aquariums you see housed in residential or commercial spaces are made of glass. Contrary to what people think, the compressive strength of glass is extremely high. 1000N/mm² = 1000MPa to be precise. What this means is to break a 1 cm cube of glass, a load of around 10 tonnes would be required.

In the case of deflection, one face of the glass is under compression while the other is in tension. The resistance of glass to breakage on deflection is known as its tensile strength. Glass typically has a tensile strength of 7 megapascals or 1000psi. But, theoretically, glass can have a tensile strength of around 17 gigapascals or 2,500,000 psi. This is due to the strong chemical bonds of glass. However, an important thing to note would be that surface flaws such as scratches and bubbles reduce the strength of glass to a significant extent. The process of chemical and thermal tempering can further increase the tensile strength of glass.

Moreover, glass aquariums are highly resistant to scratches of any kind. Though it is true that severe misuse can lead to blemishes on glass but most of the cleaning and touching will not affect glass aquariums in any way. This is especially useful since children often have the tendency to continually touch the aquariums out of fascination and to draw the attention of the marine creatures. Even in zoos, keeping a constant watch on people and kids touching the aquarium is not feasible – here, glass’ scratch-resistant feature comes handy.

Another important benefit of glass aquariums is that since glass panels are rigid, they do not suffer from any major fabrication flaws in the long-term and hence are long-lasting and durable. This rigidity of glass has another benefit – it can be manufactured to be perfectly flat tight with highly manufacturing tolerances. As a result, glass surfaces do not suffer from any distortions that might obscure the view. Most of the “distortions” you witness are but due to the refractive light coming off the water in the aquarium.

Glass is also designed to be UV-resistant. As a result, glass aquariums will not get brittle or lose their charm over time due to the UV rays of the sun or the aquarium lights. It can withstand the elements for years on end and simple cleaning from time to time is all that is required to get it back to its original shape. Moreover, it goes without saying that glass aquariums are ultra-clear – a major factor to consider while purchasing aquariums.

And finally, since glass can support significantly more than its own weight over distances, it can be placed on stands with an open-top or an incomplete one without any worries. However, one thing to keep in mind is to ensure that the stand on which the aquarium is to be placed must be levelled and strong enough to support the weight of glass.

Incorporate privacy in your space with privacy glass solutions

Glass is synonymous to both residential and commercial fitments. Among the many advantages that glass promises is the promise of privacy. We’ve all dreamt of living in a futuristic home with optimal privacy and customised glass solutions. With the onset of the smart era, it was only a matter of time until our homes and workspace followed suit.

 The Invention of Privacy Glass

With the idea to incorporate smart features into everyday spaces, the smart glass was created. Also known as privacy glass, the introduction of smart glass took the world of interiors by storm and designers embraced this revolutionary product in all areas from commercial shops, restaurants, houses to office spaces.

Privacy glass can be used endlessly in different settings. But before we take a look at some of the smart ways to use smart glass, let’s understand the ground-breaking technology behind it.

How Does Privacy Glass Work?

The privacy glass is based on the Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystals (PDLC) technology wherein the glass turns from transparent to translucent instantaneously at the flick of a switch. When the polymer-dispersed crystals are connected to a power outlet, the liquid crystals line up and make the glass clear. When the power current is turned off, the crystals get scattered randomly are turn translucent again.

Now that you’ve understood the broad concept of privacy glass, let’s go through some of the ways we can incorporate it in different settings.

Bathrooms

Installing privacy glass for shower cubicles is a great way of avoiding hazardous shower curtains. People especially living on the ground floor may benefit from privacy glass windows as well. It obscures the vision while simultaneously allowing natural light to pour in. Restaurateurs can install privacy glass bathroom cubicles to create an iconic yet functional space. It also helps to utilise maximum space and gives a cramped space the illusion of a bigger washroom.

Glass Panels

While glass doors seem like an elegant choice for conference rooms, they can easily turn into a distraction. When redecorating your office, choose privacy glass divider walls instead of regular glass panels to block out the excessive noise from the bullpen. It also gives you and your clients the privacy you need and leaves a lasting impression. Swanky club owners can use privacy glass partitions to cordon off VIP sections for whereas restaurants can incorporate privacy glass to hold intimate events for high-end clientele without shutting down the restaurant to the general public.

Medical Facilities

A hospital needs to be extremely hygienic especially in the examination and surgery rooms where the patient is most vulnerable to infections. Smart glass is a sanitary alternative to mouldy curtains which could be a breeding grounds for germs and bacteria. It offers medical practitioners the privacy they need without compromising on the health of the patients.

Roofing Solutions

Switchable privacy glass can control the privacy as well as the amount of light that passed through it. If you’ve ever pictured yourself lying in your bed and gazing at the starry sky with your partner, install a skylight to transform your dreams into reality. Several interior designers are installing smart glass roofs in hotel suites for an ethereal experience.

Cabins and Doors

When planning to renovate your old cabin, privacy glass doors can pose a great advantage. Closed cabin doors give employees the feeling that their boss is unapproachable. Smart glass cabins can give you privacy when you need it and also make you seem friendly. If you hate being cooped up indoors, opt for privacy glass front doors to feel connected with the outside world.

Glass Facades

Towering glass buildings with privacy glass have taken the world by storm. Not only do they look classy, but they are also highly energy-efficient. They allow for sunlight to enter the space, reduce the need for artificial lighting and save money on energy bills. The natural light also enhances productivity among the employees while simultaneously blocking out the harmful UV rays.

Advertising

When privacy glass is in its translucent state, it serves as a high-definition projection screen. You can turn that glass facade into a large media display screen. Restaurant and shop owners can advertise their products on their front door itself by turning it into a display screen. The privacy glass walls in the conference rooms can be used to demonstrate a larger-than-life presentation and impress potential clients.

Windows

Since smart glass is capable of blocking light to a certain extent, installing privacy glass windows in restaurants can help create the perfect ambience. Incorporating privacy glass windows in homes and offices can help block out the street noise and create a peaceful, noise-free environment.

At AIS- India’s leading integrated glass solutions company, we have created the AIS Swytchglas. Made from extra clear glass, it gets activated in less than 10 microseconds and lasts for a minimum of 20,000 cycles and is capable of working in temperatures from -10 to 50 degree-Celsius. You can turn off for complete privacy and turn on for visibility. Get in touch with AIS and avail our wide range of premium glass solutions for maximum satisfaction.

Everything You Need to Know About Laminated Glass

Glass has evolved from its humble origins to encompass manifold functionalities, unheard of a couple of decades ago. Today, it is a celebrated building material among architects and interior designers, used in various structures such as skywalks, walkways, flooring, etc. Yet, one of the most common misconceptions among people regarding glass is that it breaks easily and when it does so, can lead to serious injuries. And for such concerns, there exists a product tough enough to resist heavy impact – laminated glass.

If you’re looking for suitable safety and security glass for the windows of your home, laminated glass may be your best choice. Laminated glass is a layered type of glass with a laminated sheet resting between 2 layers of glass. This laminated sheet is usually made of polyvinyl butyral or PVB and acts as a sort of adhesive to reduce danger in case the glass gets broken. The number of layers can extend up to 9 as well, keeping in mind that every 2 sheets of glass will have a film of PVB between them.

How is Laminated Glass Made?

Laminated glass is manufactured by adhering two or more layers of glass together with a flexible PVB interlayer. This takes place through a heat and pressure process in which the chemical bond formed between the glass and PVB interlayer does not merely join them but ‘conjoins’ them to create an entirely new material.

What are the Advantages Of Laminated Glass?

Laminated glass is generally used for safety and security purposes. This is because even if the glass is broken, the PVB layers make the glass layers stick to them so that it does not fall out of the window frame. This is especially useful in households with small children. The PVB layers reduce the transmission of UV rays into the house, decreasing the likelihood of skin diseases.

It is much more durable than ordinary glass, even though its installation does not require any special effort or time. It can even resist impact from pieces of metal and rocks. Laminated glass is also much less vulnerable to changes in temperature and pressure than ordinary glass. The viscoelastic properties of the specialised PVB interlayer make laminated glass an excellent sound insulator. This is an advantage if there are old people or pets inside the house.

What Are the Uses of Laminated Glass?

The most common use of laminated glass is in automobile windshields. This is because laminated glass is much stronger than normal annealed glass and will not easily break, but on the rare occasion that it does break, it will not shatter into sharp shards, but the glass pieces will stick together, forming a spider web-like pattern, thereby reducing the chances of serious injuries.

Laminated glass is a good choice for use in buildings when it comes to providing protection against disasters such as a fire or an earthquake. Laminated glass is more resistant to fire than ordinary glass, which means that it will take time to shatter, during which the inhabitants of the building can escape. During an earthquake, the glass does not shatter immediately and falls out of its frames, making it a lot safer for people to pass by windows and get outside. This application of laminated glass extends to both residential and commercial spaces.

Glass canopies have become a popular trend in exterior decoration for their aesthetics and practicality. These canopies are generally made using laminated glass, as it is harsh weather-resistant while at the same time allowing natural light to enter the space, giving it an overall more spacious appearance. And what’s more, it keeps harmful UV rays at bay.

Shop windows and doors are often made of laminated glass so that they hold in case of a break-in attempt since shops are particularly vulnerable to robberies. For the same reason, laminated glass doors and windows are even installed in the construction of homes.

Balcony railings are often built using laminated glass owing to their impact-resistance properties and the aesthetic appeal that they render. Moreover, the glass does not obstruct the outside view, even for little kids.

Nowadays, more and more people are opting for the option of an “infinity swimming pool” or a boundary-less pool that gives the illusion of water flowing over its edge. Such pools are generally constructed using laminated glass since it is shatter-proof and highly pressure-resistant.

Its resistance to changes in temperature makes it a good candidate for the construction of skylights. Skylights made of laminated glass will not break or fall even under extreme weather conditions like a hailstorm. Other structural applications of laminated glass can be found in the making of glass railings, curtain walls, glass facades, glass roofs, etc.

Buildings with glass floors typically use laminated glass because ordinary glass would break under the pressure of all the foot traffic it would be subjected to. Overhead glass structures in buildings are also made of laminated glass, as it will not break and rain down into tiny pieces in case of an impact.

Protective cases in jewellery shops, art galleries, aquariums, banks, money exchange centres, showrooms, and other such places that house valuables are made of laminated glass due to matters of safety. Furthermore, laminated glass  can also be used to enhance the visual appeal of a space, as it is available in colourful and fabricated variants.

Things You Need to Know About Toughened Glass

Glass is usually perceived to be fragile and breakable, and hence we often have second thoughts about using glass installations in our space. However, toughened glass proves this perception to be a myth by providing you with glass installations that can withstand high impacts. You can freely use toughened glass to decorate your space without worrying about your safety.
0078

What is Toughened Glass?

toughened or toughened glass is a processed glass that is much stronger than normal annealed glass. It is made by undergoing a process that uses heat to improve the strength of the glass. The surface of the glass is heated in a furnace at a very high temperature. Once the temperature of the glass reaches over 600 degrees Celsius, the glass is then cooled rapidly. Due to this process of rapid cooling, a centre tension is created in the glass that alters its physical property. The resulting sheet of glass is 4-5 times stronger than float glass.

In the event of an impact higher than the range that the glass can handle, the glass shatters into small, blunt pebble-like pieces. This ensures that there are no serious injuries, as in the case of normal glass. Therefore, toughened glass is also used as a safety glass in large buildings.

Therefore, if you’re looking to install glass that has high durability and provides you with high protection, toughened glass is the way to go. Also, since toughened glass lasts throughout the life of the structure it is installed in, you don’t have to worry about maintenance or frequent replacement.

Applications of Toughened Glass?

toughened glass is now widely used in commercial as well as home spaces due to its several functional and aesthetic qualities. Here are a few ways in which toughened glass can be used to transform your space.

  • Partitions

Besides their aesthetic appeal, toughened glass partitions are strong and can be used to create boundaries in your space. In offices, toughened glass partitions can be used to increase the amount of natural light entering the space while also maintaining privacy. toughened glass partition walls can also be used in conference rooms so that you can get a full view of the office while also ensuring that no one can hear you; thanks to the glass’ noise insulating properties. At home, toughened glass partitions are often used in bathrooms, between the shower area and the dressers. This ensures that you don’t wet the whole bathroom area and don’t feel claustrophobic at the same time.

  • Doors

Due to the various customisations available in toughened glass, you can install toughened glass doors to give your space a sleek look. You can use them indoors, on balconies, and even in shower cubicles. Installing toughened glass doors that open outdoors ensures that your space receives maximum natural light, making it brighter and more comfortable. You can also choose to install toughened glass for your office doors to make the space look airier and more welcoming. Due to their sturdy nature, you don’t have to worry about safety while installing them. They are the ideal combination of utility and class that one can install in any space. There are several uses of Toughened glass to make your place more secure and safe.

  • Windows

Windows are an essential component of every commercial space as well as every home. Every structure has at least one window installed for ventilation and lighting purposes. The lack of windows deprives the space of sufficient ventilation and natural light. You have to increase your use of artificial lighting to compensate for the lack of natural light. This leads to higher electricity bills. Hence, installing windows, specifically toughened glass windows, ensures that your space remains ventilated and full of light. Additionally, they also provide safety and security.

Why choose Toughened Glass?

Choosing toughened glass offers you numerous benefits. Even though toughened glass has the same visual qualities as annealed glass, it is 4-5 times stronger than the latter. The toughening process ensures that there is no alteration in its light transmission abilities. There is just an increase in the glass’s strength and its ability to withstand high impacts. toughened glass can withstand temperature changes up to 250 degrees Celsius without shattering. All these qualities make it extremely difficult to break toughened glass.

Conclusion:

Due to its several benefits, toughened glass is being actively installed in homes, offices, et al. At AIS Glass, we provide you with high quality tuffen glass that can be customised to fit your needs. AISStronglas is strong, durable, and can endure high impacts with ease. You can install our toughened glass on tabletops, shower cubicles, balustrades, shelves, shower enclosures, partitions, walls, facades, washbasins, and canopies. Enhance the curb appeal of your residence with frosted glass

Glass finds plenty of applications in windows, doors, and partitions in both homes and offices. Modern architects depend a great deal on different kinds of glass to create a space that is practical, secure and comfortable. Frosted glass is used to provide homeowners with all these functions without compromising on style. It has a translucent milky surface, which doesn’t allow you to see through it but still transmits light. Installing frosted glass in your home ensures privacy and adds a decorative look. Frosted glass is widely used for windows, doors, shower cubicles, partitions, shelves, cabinets, and table tops, and for decorative purposes.

How Is Frosted Glass Made?

Frosted glass is a type of processed glass that is usually manufactured using two techniques- acid etching or sandblasting.

Acid etching uses hydrofluoric acid to achieve a frosted appearance. The acid reacts with the glass and corrodes its surface, making it translucent. The etching process is permanent and makes the glass’ surface extremely smooth. The glass is then washed and is ready to be sold.

Sandblasting is a safer technique for producing frosted glass. It involves blasting sand or husk on the surface of the glass using a high-velocity machine. The degree of translucency can be altered by changing the type of sand and the velocity of the machine. However, the glass is rendered rough and requires higher maintenance.

Why Choose Frosted Glass for Your Home?

Need privacy in your space? Frosted glass is a classic way to ensure privacy in your home in style. In fact, one of the main reasons frosted glass is used is for reasons of privacy. It is usually installed in spaces where privacy is important, for example, bathrooms, partitions, road-facing windows and doors, etc. Due to its translucent surface, it blurs out or distorts visuals on the other side of the glass, not allowing full visibility.

But with all this, it does not restrict natural light from entering your space. Using frosted glass in your space will not only give you the privacy you desire, but will also give you much-needed Vitamin D from the sun sans the harmful UV rays.  Hence, not only does it capture maximum natural light, but it also filters out harmful UV rays.

Though privacy is one of the major reasons to have frosted glass installed in your home, it is not the only one. There are several other important benefits it brings to the table – reduces energy consumption, enhances the security of your home, is harsh weather-resistant, is low-maintenance, and offers high visual appeal.

Where Can You Use Frosted Glass?

The applications of frosted glass for your home are limitless. With its aesthetic appeal and utility, it can be used in multiple locations, serving different purposes.

Bedrooms

Your bedroom is your safe space; it’s where you get the opportunity to spend time with yourself. To ensure that you can be your true self, it is important to have privacy in your bedroom. Frosted glass enhances your privacy and improves the atmosphere of your room by bringing in natural light. It can also create a dim-light effect if you choose a glass with high level of translucency.

Bathrooms

Along with your bedroom, frosted glass for bathroom entrances (sliding bathroom doors or shower screens) will provide enough natural light while obstructing the view from the outside. Moreover, an added benefit is that due to its non-corrosive nature, frosted glass will remain mould-free despite the high moisture levels of the bathroom.

Kitchen Gardens

Another very popular space for the installation of frosted glass is the kitchen garden. Herbs which are commonly grown in kitchen gardens thrive best when they receive a balanced amount of sunlight. Creating a kitchen garden with frosted glass walls is an effective way to keep excessive light at bay and ensures the health and well-being of your plants.

Frosted Windows

Windows are an essential part of every home. They help our homes look brighter by capturing natural light. But windows also create more room for violation of your privacy and security. Installing frosted glass in your bedroom and bathroom windows guarantees you privacy and brings in natural light. For your kitchen, because of the heat and the smell, it is important to install windows. Frosted windows can withstand high temperature and pressure and hence will not succumb to the heat normally produced in a kitchen. From an aesthetic point of view, frosted windows in your dining areas and sitting rooms enhance the visual appeal of your home.

Frosted Partitions

A glass partition is one of the best methods to separate different sections of your home and instil a sense of privacy and style. In your bathrooms, a frosted glass partition gives you the option to split the shower and the bathroom sections. It can also be used as a complete partition between the bathroom and the dressing area. You can choose to install partial or full frosted glass depending on your privacy needs. A partially frosted partition can be installed in between the dining area and sitting area, to create a flow in your entertainment space.

Frosted Doors

Frosted glass doors can provide you with much-needed privacy in spaces such as bathrooms, reading rooms, home office space, home library, etc. Rooms that are either window-less or receive minimal natural light can be installed with French frosted glass doors to create a balance between privacy and light. If you need to create separate spaces with a modern touch, using frosted glass sliding doors is the way to go. And if you’re tired of Venetian blinds or curtains on the doors to your backyard, the best way to create intimacy with the outdoors is to install frosted sliding doors.

With all its benefits and applications, frosted glass has taken an important place in modern home design. It has wide applications; not only is it the go-to option for home entrances, but is also used in windows, partition walls, glass cabinets to create a stylish and private look that is also eco-friendly and energy-efficient. Even though it blurs the visuals, frosted glass still allows sufficient natural light to enter your living space so that you can avoid using artificial light. Its thermal insulation qualities help control the temperature of your home for your comfort. With its multiple applications, scratch resistance, non-corrosive nature, it is durable and easy to maintain. Frosted glass helps make your home more efficient and welcoming, making this an investment you shouldn’t miss.

At AIS we offer you AIS Krystal Frosted glass which can serve both protective and decorative purposes for your homes. It is available in distinctive designs for you to choose from. You can get the glass customised according to your needs. Advantages of Glass

With technology, glass has evolved beyond sustainability to also serve aesthetic sensibilities. Glass is rising to become the versatile building material that serves quality, functionality and adds an interesting touch to your interiors. While smart glass and spider-glazed glass are popular for their functional value, products like lacquered glass are having a major moment in interior décor, owing to their aesthetic appeal.

What is AIS Decor?

AIS Décor is the brand name for back painted glass segment. In simple terms, back painted glass is a float glass that is coated with a highly durable, opaque lacquer. The glass is then baked and cured to help it bond perfectly for a smooth back-painted finish. Available in a variety of colours, it is a fresh take on your standard paints and wallpapers.

Here are a few smart ways to use back painted glass and liven up your interiors.

  1. Cupboards and Cabinets

Benefits of Switchable Glass Partitions in Offices

Ever had those moments where you craved privacy but after some time, didn’t feel the need for it? What if you could have privacy on demand? Well, there’s a product that can switch its opacity to match your mood and needs – switchable glass. Switchable glass makes it possible for office partitions to give employees privacy they need while making it look modern elegant. It is also called smart glass because of its ability to switch from transparent to translucent obscuring the view, according to the user’s whims. It is one of the best materials to make office partitions.

What is Switchable Glass?

Switchable glass, also known as electrochromic glass or smart glass is glass that can switch between being clear and being translucent just by pushing a button. Switchable glass uses the scientific principle of electrochromism to function. According to this scientific idea, materials change their opacity levels (usually from transparent to opaque and vice versa) when an electric voltage is applied across them. Normally, smart glass has a bluish colour which switches to crystal clear transparency on the passage of an electric current.

The above-mentioned electric current passes through a smart film sandwiched between the two layers of a smart polymer. The smart film consists of a suspension of liquid crystals in a polymer base through which the electric charge passes. Under normal conditions, the liquid crystals are scattered randomly all around the polymer base that scatter light as light tries to pass through, making the window opaque. When the switch is pressed, the electric charge passing through the base makes the liquid crystals arrange themselves into straight lines, allowing light to pass through without scattering, thus making the window completely transparent.

What are the Advantages of Switchable Glass?

Since switchable glass prevents both the heat and the light from the sun from entering in, it is very energy-efficient. Using this type of glass in the summers can reduce the use of the AC in your office exponentially, while less heating would be necessary during the winters.

This type of glass blocks harmful UV rays from the sun too and is available in a wide variety of tints. While UV rays are blocked, natural sunlight coming in through the exterior windows can spread into the whole office since the glass can be made transparent at any time, unlike walls which would block all sunlight.

Apart from providing privacy, switchable glass is quite low maintenance in comparison to traditional blinds and painted walls – blinds collect dust fast and paint can chip off of the walls, making them look worn-down much faster than glass walls. It can simply be wiped clean and carries no risk of any kind of staining.

Why Should I Use Switchable Glass for Office Partitions?

Switchable glass allows employees to customise their own working space according to their personal privacy requirements. This can increase productivity as employees get to make their space their own.

The glass can be turned translucent at the click of a button, which means that an isolated and focused environment can be created for work. Even if there are many cubicles adjacent to each other, people can still have a sense of privacy when doing individual work by turning the partitions translucent. While the darkened state provides privacy, the ability of the partitions to turn transparent makes it easy for employees who prefer open spaces to not feel claustrophobic. Each room also looks bigger when light is allowed to enter instead of it being walled away.

Conference rooms especially benefit from these kinds of partitions since they can be darkened to allow a more focused environment during a serious meeting, while they can be made transparent again during a break to let the attendees relax. If employees need to give presentations during the conference, the darkened glass can also be used as a seamless projection screen. This eliminates the requirement of spending money on a projection screen for each conference room in larger offices.

When it comes to the visual aspect of the office, switchable glass gives an open and modern look to any space, unlike walls and blinds which can make offices look old-fashioned and claustrophobic. If there are multiple stretches of switchable glass used, each pane of glass can be alternated to form a series of transparent and darkened glass and give the office a more unique look without having to spend any extra money. Since sunlight can be blocked at will, any fabric or furniture placed near areas that receive sunlight will not fade as easily as it otherwise would.

Finally, if you ever want to change the layout of switchable glass in your office, this type of glass is portable and can easily be installed without having to close down your office building for an extended period. This makes switchable glass partitions both customisable and convenient.
